Pick 3 and Pick 5 Numbers on Any Network: Offers Expired!

Not that it should be any surprise, but with the launch of the new 'Any Mobile, Anytime', Account Services no longer offers the Pick 3 or Pick 5 Numbers on Any Network plans for customers that are requesting to leave Sprint®.

  • With the Any Mobile, AnytimeSM offer, the Pick 3 or Pick 5 Numbers on Any Network retention offers are no longer needed.

  • Customers should not be transferred to Account Services with the intention of getting the Pick 3 or Pick 5 Numbers on Any Network offers.

If for some reason you still have a Pick 3 or Pick 5 and decide to not go to a new plan that includes Any Mobile, Anytime, then Customer Care can still modify your selected numbers, business as usual.

Labor Reduction Talking Points

As you’ve already heard by now, we’re going to be cutting just over 2K jobs by the end of next month. Here’s the public talking points, with more insight on them in the coming days….

Sprint Nextel announced on Nov. 9 that the company will eliminate 2,000 to 2,500 jobs.

    • The plan is to reduce annual internal and external labor costs by approximately $350 million.
    • Impacted employees will be identified in the coming weeks.
    • Workforce reductions will be spread across the company.
    • Most impacted employees will leave the company before year’s end.
    • The company pledges to retain a high standard of customer service.
  • Despite this announcement, we have a lot of momentum leading into 2010 and much progress of which we can be very proud, particularly in Customer Management.
  • We have now achieved seven consecutive quarters of improvement in customer satisfaction and first call resolution through the third quarter of 2009.
  • We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but we are on the right path to stem the tide of customer losses, regain our footing on revenue, and strengthen our brand.

Self Service Options on your HTC Hero and Samsung Moment

Starting last week, HTC Hero and Samsung Moment customers may have noticed a new application on their phone that lets them perform 3 self service options.

  • HTC Hero and Samsung Moment customers can use the new Device Self Service application on their phones to: update their profile, update firmware, and update PRL (Preferred Roaming List) functions.

Some November Bills Delayed

Customers in November billing cycles 7, 8, and 9 may receive their bill late due to invoice issues with a recent system update.

  • Impacted customers will still be able to view their bill in sprint.com on 11/16/09.
  • Specialists may not see a November bill image for some customers in CSM or sView until the cycle has been released.
  • eBill customers will also see a delay in their eBill e-mail notifications.
  • Mailing could be delayed by 2-3 days.
  • BlackBerry 8830 World Edition and BlackBerry Pearl 8130 Maintenance Release

BlackBerry released new software version 4.5.0.175 for the BlackBerry® World Edition 8830 smartphone and the BlackBerry® Pearl™ 8130 smartphone on sprint.com/downloads on 11/12

Issues that are fixed with the new software:

    • Home screen will display the New Message Received indicator on all received SMS messages.
    • The vertical position of the banner on the Home screen will be adjusted and the font height for unread messages on the banner will be corrected.
    • SMS messages set to Immediate will be sent immediately as expected.
    • Random delays in audio routing between the time the call was answered and the time the caller’s voice is heard will be fixed.
    • The Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) will no longer fluctuate randomly.
    • Security issue fix - certificates now make it apparent that a null character difference could cause a certificate request.

    Google Voice & Sprint... 11/08/09

    image

At yesterday’s keynote address at the 2009 Open Developer Conference, Steve Elfman gave us some great news and details about how we will allow Sprint users to integrate Google Voice into their Sprint service…. actually the more official wording went more like:

“Sprint is proud to promote access to the new voicemail feature in Google Voice™ to deliver an even richer experience to customers.”

    Here’s the goodies…

    • Google Voice™ - starting 11/8/09, all Sprint price plans will include free conditional (no answer/busy) call forwarding (*73,*74,*28).
      • No action is required on your part, it’s all automatic. Unconditional (immediate) call forwarding (*72) will remain $0.20/minute.
    • Simply Everything customers will also begin receiving unconditional call forwarding (immediate) included in their plan beginning late November. More info on this closer to time!

PRL Updates in select LA markets

Starting this morning, we have released new Preferred Roaming List (PRL) updates that allow customers in select areas to keep their roaming ability. This will mean nothing to 99.99% of you that read the blog, but for those few that do, I know you’ve been waiting on this for a little while now, so here you are.
  • The new PRLs (standard 10055/50555, EVDO 20255/60655 and data card 60755) resolve the loss of mobile broadband roaming as home service in Houma, LA and surrounding markets.

  • These same PRLs will also resolve the following roaming outages expected to take place on the targeted dates indicated.

    • 10/28/09 - loss of roaming voice and 1XRTT - Mohave County (This PRL update does not resolve mobile broadband roaming coverage loss for customers in this area.)

    • 11/13/09 - loss of roaming voice and 1XRTT - Yuma County and La Paz County, AZ

    • 11/18/09 - loss of roaming voice and 1xRTT - Santa Cruz County, AZ(This PRL update does not resolve mobile broadband roaming coverage loss for customers in this area.)

  • Customers living in or traveling in these counties should update their PRL prior to the roaming network date, or they will lose the listed services.

  • Note: Dates listed are planned; however, actual actual dates may vary by about 1 - 3 days before or after.

    Visual Voicemail: Upgrade Required

If you’re lucky enough to have visual voicemail on your device, then there’s an update available that you probably didn’t even know about! It’s a required update/release that came out the 2nd week of September.

imageYou may have been ignoring the prompts, or maybe you weren’t sure what they were.. but go ahead, and click upgrade on your device. In fact, you will be required to upgrade in order to continue receiving visual voicemail in the near future. In the coming weeks, if you have not updated it, you will only receive a notification that a message was received, however the message itself will never appear on your device. This means you would not receive your actual messages, so PLEASE ACCEPT THE UPGRADE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Just over 20% of our visual voicemail subscribers have completed the upgrade on their device. There is no risk involved, and it only takes a couple of minutes, so why not go ahead and do it now? If you’re setting up your visual voicemail, you should encounter the following prompt: “An upgrade is now available” – simply choose upgrade.

You can also get there on your own accord through the Voicemail icon > Menu > Settings > Check for Upgrade.

If you encounter a message stating “Install Blocked: For security, your phone is set to block installations of applications not sourced in Android Market”, follow these steps:
    1.Click ‘Settings’

2.Check the ‘Unknown Sources’ box, and OK on the ‘Attention’ pop-up

3.Press the back hardkey to return to the Visual Voicemail Inbox

4.Choose Menu > Settings > Check for Upgrade, & click ‘Upgrade’

5.Once it’s found, choose ‘OK’, then ‘Install’, then ‘Done’

To verify the upgrade was successful, or that you have already completed the upgrade on your device,  select the Voicemail icon on your device, and repeat step 4 above. If you have already completed the upgrade, you will receive a message stating: “No upgrade is available at this time”.

Direct Protect (DP) Program Coming to an End

Direct Protect program gives iDEN and some PowerSource customers coverage for their equipment for physical and liquid damage, and lost or stolen phones. This program will permanently end on 1/8/10.

    • Effective 1/8/10, existing Direct Protect customers will be migrated to either Total Equipment Protection (TEP) or Equipment Replacement Program (ERP).
      • Direct Protect and ESRP customers will be migrated to TEP.
      • Direct Protect-only customers will be migrated to ERP.
      • Direct Protect customers with a Government DP plan will be migrated to Government TEP.
    • Customers are given the option to contact Sprint or Asurion and opt-out of the auto-enrollment to TEP or ERP. This will leave them with no equipment coverage when the program ends on 1/8/10.
    • This change is being communicated to customers by direct mail starting 10/22/09.
    • The letters will provide detailed information regarding this conversion and will include the following:
      • Highlights of TEP and ERP programs,
      • A new Coverage Certificate with the terms and conditions of the new coverage.
      • Deductible Schedule based on the model of the phone.
      • Asurion contact information if customers want to convert to TEP or ERP prior to the automatic conversion.

    Important:

    • Direct Protect customers should continue to call The Signal for claims until they are converted to TEP or ERP on 1/08/10. Direct Protect customers should not call Asurion for claims for a loss that occurs before 1/8/10.

BIS Seamless Sign-On Issues – BlackBerry 9630 Tour

BlackBerry Internet Server (BIS) version 2.8 Seamless Sign-on has now launched and is working fine for everyone… well, almost everyone! It seems that Blackberry Tour users are having an issue, but more than that – the default workaround directions given to the user on the device are also incorrect!.

New customers who use the Email Settings icon are not able to set up their BIS account and integrate personal e-mail accounts (for example: Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail). Instead, they receive this error message and these incorrect steps to fix the issue:

“Your Device is not registered. Please register your device and Try again.”

The on-screen help will guide you to correct this by going to the  device options, clicking Advanced Options. Click Host Routing Table. Press the Menu Key or the Trackwheel. Click Register Now

The problem? The steps listed in this error message do not fix the issue!

    Here is the correct solution:

    New BlackBerry Tour Customer Instructions:

    • There are 3 easy steps if a user needs to set up their BIS account immediately:

      1. Access the device Browser icon.

      2. Type www.sprint.blackberry.com into the browser URL.

      3. Agree to the Terms and Conditions.

      4. Enter the e-mail account user name and password to integrate (for example: Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail).

        • The BIS account is now set up and customers can receive their integrated e-mail.

        • If the customer needs to access their BIS account to edit their e-mail account before a fix is communicated, follow these same steps.

        • The Email Settings icon will not work - even after the BIS account is set up using this workaround - until a fix is in place.

    Existing BlackBerry Tour Customer Instructions:

    • Until a fix is in place, recommend customers do not delete their BIS account in order to try and set up with Seamless Sign-On on their device.

    • If a customer does choose to delete their account or it is deleted by accident, follow the workaround steps.

    Samsung Intrepid – Activation Walkthrough

Ready to activate your new Samsung Intrepid tomorrow? Since it’s almost expected by now, I thought I would go ahead and give you a preview of the steps involved. Of course, most of the time all that is required is that you visit sprint.com/activate and then power on your device, and everything is quick, fast, and automatic.

This walkthrough is intended more for the uber-tech-savvy users that just like to know how everything works – and of course the Sprint retail agents, who tend to send me the most emails and comments, hands down – thanks, btw for keeping me busy! I love your emails.

    Primary & Preferred Programming Method:

    • Hands Free - Open Mobile Alliance/Device Management (OMA/DM)

If you have to resort to any of the manual programming methods, you’re going to need the ESN/MEID, may as well begin there:

    • The ESN/MEID can be found in two places.
      • Underneath the battery in the phone on the right side of the barcode sticker.
        • Turn off the phone and remove the battery to view.
      • The Barcode sticker on the end of the original box, labeled DEC-HEX.
        • This should always be the secondary method as the box and phone do not always match.

      Early Sunday AM Provisioning Delays

In case you're one of those people that has an odd schedule, or just prefers to activate your phones in the middle of the night - there will be a short maintenance window early Sunday morning (09/13) from 2AM - 6AM (Central Time) for the CDMA (Sprint) switch.

cell-towerCDMA Provisioning (Adds, Changes and Deletes) will be delayed 4 hrs due to Maintenance. All will be complete by 6AM, and any transactions that were started and queued during that time will then be processed. With this time frame there should not be any backlog to speak of.

Seasonal Standby Plan Expands to 6 Months

This went into effect last month, but it slipped my mind until today. The Seasonal Standby plan was originally available for up to 6 months, then it was reduced to 3 months, and after much debate, it is once again (and for good) set back to being available for up to 6 months at a time.

      • Consumer and IL customers can now remain on the SSBY for a total of 6 instead of 3 months.

      • All other requirements remain the same:

        • Customers must be on a regular plan for at least 3 months before qualifying for SSBY.

        • Services are disabled on SSBY

        • Service Agreements are frozen while on SSBY

        • SSBY should be provisioned using next day or another future date as the effective date.

        • Customers should not be promised a return to their old plan when the phone is reactivated

      Any Mobile, Anytime

There's a hot new feature that is being rolled out to Sprint customers this week... it's called 'Any Mobile, Anytime' and it might just be the deciding factor for millions considering a change in providers. I know that when I scrolled though my contacts - I have 2 landline numbers in there, and the remainder are wireless numbers. I suspect this is the case for a lot of people - and those are exactly the type of folks that will benefit hugely from this new feature.

Any Mobile, Anytime is a feature that provides customers unlimited domestic calling to or from any other domestic wireless number while on the Sprint network without utilizing anytime minutes. The only eligible plans include Everything Data Plans, Everything Data Shared Plans, Sprint Business Advantage Messaging and Data Plans and Everything Plus Data Referral Plans, Individual and Family. You never have to worry about restrictive calling circles with Any Mobile, Anytime - you get free calling to over 250 million wireless subscribers.

      Ad

      • Competitively, Any Mobile, Anytime blows away T-Mobile’s myFaves, AT&T’s rollover and Verizon’s Friends and Family. Never worry about calling circles.

      • It makes life easy for the customer because they don’t need to worry about what wireless carrier friends, family and co-workers are on. Easy to sell, too.

      • Value. Any Mobile, Anytime is included on eligible plans, which already save customers more than $115/year on individual plans, and $600/year on family plans compared to comparable Verizon and AT&T plans.

      • Existing customer experience is enhanced because customers on eligible plans will automatically get this benefit.

      • Available to new and existing Consumer, IL and CL customers only on Everything Data plans, Everything Data Share plans, Sprint Business Advantage Messaging and Data plans, or Everything Plus Referral Data plans for Individuals and Families.

      • For new customers, the Any Mobile, AnytimeSM feature is automatically added when selecting one of the eligible price plans. • For existing customers on eligible plans, the Any Mobile, Anytime feature is applied at the start of the customer’s first billing cycle after launch.

      • If an existing customer on an Everything Data Share plan adds a new line of service, the new line will automatically get the feature at time of provisioning. – The existing line, however, will get the feature applied to their plan at the beginning of their next billing cycle.

      • As part of Sprint’s Right Plan Promise, existing customers may switch their rate plan at anytime without a contract extension.

      • All rules & regulations of Everything Data, Everything Data Share, Sprint Business Advantage Messaging & Data plans and Everything Referral Data Plans for Individuals and Families applies.
