International Roaming Text Messaging Service for CDMA Customers

If you have a GSM/CDMA dual mode phone, you will be able to use it to send and receive text messages while roaming internationally for a low per message charge.

  • Customers who have a GSM/CDMA dual mode phone can now send and receive text messages when roaming on an international roaming partners GSM network.

  • Charges are: $.50 per sent message and $.05 per incoming message.

  • Current text messaging Monthly Recurring Charge (MRC) plan does not include international roaming text messaging usage.

    question: i own the htc touch and i'm currently out of the country (with my phone being in airplane mode), what happens to all my text messages i receive while i'm gone? when i return 3 mos. later, when i turn on my phone to work again, will i get all the messages sent to me flooding into my inbox or are they lost?

    Don't worry you will get all your text messages as soon as you get back in the US. I was out of the US for a month. As soon as I landed in NY and turned my phone on, I started getting my messages. After a while it was very annoying, so put your phone on silent mode when you do. Mine took two hours so make sure the battery is fully charged.

    I could not find these pricing charges on sprint.com and that you can send/receive when overseas? some official pricing will help, also other providers only charge 35c to send and 0c to receive. makes sprint expensive.

    If you are traveling out of the country, and turn your phone off, or its in airplane mode, or you are using a CDMA ONLY phone, then you will NOT get text messages. If you return to the Sprint PCS network, and turn on your phone, or take phone out of airplane mode you will only get the last 3 days worth of text messages. This is standard across ALL carriers. Anyone who says you get 3 months of texts are completely full of crud. No carrier holds texts for more then 72 hours before they are destroyed in transit.

    As for using and HTC Touch or Touch Pro, unless you are using the Touch Pro 2, you will not be able to send or receive texts while roaming internationally. Must be using a GSM/CDMA phone. Samsung Ace, BlackBerry Tour, HTC Touch Pro 2 are just a few. The reason for this is that CDMA roaming carriers are not offering the SMS through their networks yet for international roaming partners, however GSM carriers are. Its pretty standard.

    The $0.50 charge is MORE then any other carrier, except I think Verizon who charges the same. T-Mobile is the way to go if you want to use international incoming texts. If you have an unlimited bucket, incoming while roaming internationally come out of that, and you do not pay any additional fees. You WILL however pay data if you receive an MMS message.

    I had tmobile before and has data and unlimited text, I never had to paid for any incoming text/mms or roaming data internationally or nationally, now that I switch to sprint, I see there is some fees that I didn't accounted which is way more with sprint when you travel.

    @Marcus + @Rwalford79: thanks for the info! i guess only having 72 hours would make more sense for network traffic (versus getting 3mos worth). but then again... maybe no one will miss me while i'm gone! ;)

    When is sprint getting an international text plan. It costs the exact same thing to send and receive messages internationally as domestic messages. Why is international texting not included in our plan, if the cost is the same 20 cents.

    Totally off topic, but you haven't posted anything lately, so here goes:

    Any word on how 4G pricing will be handled yet? They just announced the 4G rollout for Cleveland, and i'm itching to get my hands on the Evo 4G. Hopefully theyll just tack it onto my Everything Data without making me pay more...

    Texting didn't work for me (outgoing that is) in Spain, Holland and Belgium last week. What is the service # I need to enter on my TP2 for texting to work?

    there is no service number for sprint that will make it works, i tries all, you should use a sofware like skype or voipsms to send text and cheaper, if you send to us uses the email associate to a phone then it will be free e.g: #####@tmomail.net
