Customers experiencing issues in the Chicago market

What you need to know:

  • To launch new Network Vision cell sites, Sprint is replacing the Local Technology Provider, which requires removing and replacing existing equipment in the Chicago Market.

  • While the majority of customers are not affected, some customers are experiencing temporary issue with provisioning, dropped calls, and calls rolling to voicemail.

    • This is temporary and will stop after the cell site is fully tuned.

    • Do not send a customer to a retail store for any of these coverage issues.

    • Do not notate these issues as capacity or coverage problems.

Why you need to know it:

  • A Network Event Board ticket opens for each cell site activated or upgraded. The ticket closes when Sprint certifies each cell site to be fully is optimized and functional.

  • Optimization usually completes within a few days, but some may continue for a longer period.  We do not have a date for repair just yet, but Sprint is proactively monitoring and addressing these issues as quickly as possible.

  • Vision Network Event Board tickets are coded in blue and are loaded to 90 days. This date should not be communicated to the customer. Giving customers a specific date may actually frustrate them more if that date changes.

What you need to do:

  • Use this link for answers to frequently asked questions about New Cell Sites.

  • Allow your customer to vent their frustrations. Confidently explain that we are aware of the situation and are actively working to correct the issue. Your ability to confidently let them know you understand their situation will put them at ease.

  • Make sure to use simple explanations when explaining how Sprint is working to solve their issue because customers can get confused by technical language.

Sprint Customer Care Tools

Ever wonder what snazzy tools our care departments have to assist you when problems arise? The list is exhausting!

While most of these tools are internal, there are a few external ones thrown in for good measure. While you won't be able to access *most* of these tools, you can at least have a good idea of all the resources available to our agents, and what they do.

Sprint Store Information Master Database

Ever wondered what info we have about the retail/Servie & Repair (S&R) stores that you don't? Believe it or not, it's not much! Basically, we have:

  • Dealer Name / DBA / Legal Name & Address Info

  • Standard Store Phone #

  • Service & Repair Phone #

  • Store Territory / Director of that area / Sprint Contact

  • Store's Contract ID

  • & Finally the store's hours

Some of you may find this info useful? Perhaps for directing complaints, direct phone numbers, or other reasons. In case you do, it's posted here as a google doc:

Sprint Service & Repair Master DB (2012) (Google Doc)

Keep in mind that most locations are simply DBA's with a Sprint contract. So when we have issues with them at an executive level we simply refer back to the division manager that enforces the contract, or requests a favor, but in the end, it's up to the store to handle situations within our guidelines.

PRL Updates in select LA markets

Starting this morning, we have released new Preferred Roaming List (PRL) updates that allow customers in select areas to keep their roaming ability. This will mean nothing to 99.99% of you that read the blog, but for those few that do, I know you’ve been waiting on this for a little while now, so here you are.
  • The new PRLs (standard 10055/50555, EVDO 20255/60655 and data card 60755) resolve the loss of mobile broadband roaming as home service in Houma, LA and surrounding markets.

  • These same PRLs will also resolve the following roaming outages expected to take place on the targeted dates indicated.

    • 10/28/09 - loss of roaming voice and 1XRTT - Mohave County (This PRL update does not resolve mobile broadband roaming coverage loss for customers in this area.)

    • 11/13/09 - loss of roaming voice and 1XRTT - Yuma County and La Paz County, AZ

    • 11/18/09 - loss of roaming voice and 1xRTT - Santa Cruz County, AZ(This PRL update does not resolve mobile broadband roaming coverage loss for customers in this area.)

  • Customers living in or traveling in these counties should update their PRL prior to the roaming network date, or they will lose the listed services.

  • Note: Dates listed are planned; however, actual actual dates may vary by about 1 - 3 days before or after.

Palm Pre Software Update for WebOS

Good Morning! Although your new Palm Pre has known about it for a few hours now (smart lil things, aren't they!), you may not have noticed it yet - but as of this morning the first software update for the Palm Pre is available.

[NOTE: While some Pre's have received the notifications and/or update over the past few days, today is the *official* release date of the upgrade, which is why it's only now being posted here.]

    So... what's updated?

Current Palm Pre's are running Palm webOS v1.0.2 on the Sprint 1.4 configuration... this update will bring the webOS up to v1.0.3 and the Sprint Configuration to v1.5, Build number is now 124

You can verify your software version, build, and configuration by opening Device Info, scrolling down to Version and Configuration (for webOS version), and then tap on the Version section (for Configuration & Build)

    How do I get it?

Your Pre will automatically recognize that it is not up to date with the latest release and alert you to download and install it at some point today. You can also use the Updates application to initiate the download and update.

    What's Included?

  • Enabled non-SSL Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) email server setup

    • Customers not using SSL with Exchange (EAS) were not able to set up email and were receiving an error.

  • Now can sync EAS version 12.0 of Exchange Server 2007 without Service Pack 1 with Palm Pre.

    • Customers using EAS version 12.0 of Exchange Server 2007 were able to set up email, but were unable to sync it, and were not receiving an error.

  • Corrected pop-up window errors when installing applications.

    • Customers installing a downloaded application were receiving ‘Install Failed‘ error message if there was no more allowable memory space.

  • Addressed handling of 911 calls from the device in airplane mode.

    • CDMA radio on device is turned off (airplane mode) and PIN is locked. Customer dials 911 and the device should turn on radio and place a call once system acquisition is complete. Prior to the fix, the device didn‘t turn on automatically CDMA radio. Customers had to disable airplane mode when prompted.

  • Also addressed were various EAS email optimizations for battery life and attachment processing...

  • Email transports now ignore CDMA connection on 1x if WiFi is connected.

    • Email transports did not ignore a CDMA connection on 1x when WiFi was connected.

  • Maximum time allotted for re-sending an attachment changed to a variable based on attachment size.

    • Maximum time allotted for re-sending an attachment was 20 minutes.

  • In the WAN connection scenario, the e-mail transport should now avoid connecting immediately.

    • In the scenario where the WAN connection is going up and down, the e-mail transport used to connect immediately, and that was draining the battery.

  • Device doesn‘t sync corrupt data. Software now handles this internally with an exception.

    • Device was syncing continuously if user data on server was corrupt.

  • And finally…

  • Decreased the sync interval for Google Calendar and Contacts to 15 minutes

    • Device waited 2 hours to sync the Contacts and Calendar changes made on device to Google account. Calendar events that contained certain symbols were preventing Google Calendar sync.

  • The Dormant Battery icon has been replaced with the start up screen after connecting device to the USB charging cable.

    • When device was connected to a USB charging cable, Dormant Battery icon was displayed.

  • Scheduled weekday alarm events no longer sound on the weekends.

Quick Maintenance Window Update: Online Store

    [caption id="attachment_266" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Sprint.com Store will return shortly!"]Sprint.com Store will return shortly![/caption]

The website updates are *soo* close to being doing for the current phase, and to be able to complete some needed maintenance, the online store, housed on nextel.com will be down from 2AM-6AM this morning!
