I know you all want to hear better news - but I don't have it. Word is that there was supposed to be a promised/scheduled inspection by those wonderful customs folks today (after 3+ weeks of them dragging their heels).. but it never happened. Why not? That I have no info on. It is the government we're dealing with here.
What I can tell you is that the mere fact that they promised/scheduled an inspection for today is better news than we've had for the previous 3+ weeks the phones have been in the FTZ (Foreign Trade Zone). Progress? Yes. Perfection? No. So let's hope we get one on Monday, and still make the new launch date that was mentioned before.... I wish I could tell you more, but I simply don't have any more info to give. Should something crazy come up tonight or over the weekend (or some should CBP worker decide to claim some overtime), I'll post it asap... but our weekend 'pipeline' is composed on Fridays (basically all the info that will be distributed over the weekend) and there's nothing in there yet.... so I'll keep checking, and you'll be the first to know as soon as I hear anything - good or bad :)

The waiting game continues
ReplyDeleteYou're the man. Thanks for what you do. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeletewtf! man i hate the government this is wur all our tax money goes to lazy ppl! i want my damn evo lol!
ReplyDeleteCan't decide what is slower: The HTC-Sprint Launch of this highly anticipated smartphone that I pre-ordered or it's sputtering 3G network that 'promises' 4G oh so soon.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe just the government, too.
ReplyDeleteBut thanks as always, Neo, for the update!!
Everyone needs to call your local congressman, or congresswoman or senator and implore them to shove a boot up "the" customs officials mass responsible for this and get this ball rolling.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hard work
ReplyDeletebut I hate waiting even worse when there's no date I've been sitting on my upgrade since December of last year. (current phone is killing me)
see ya Monday
If you're feeling lazy, tweet to @CustomsBorder.
ReplyDeleteI'm told that every single unit has to go through an enhanced pat-down by TSA agents before being allowed into the country.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate your giving us this info - much more than anyone else is doing. Cheers and we'll circle back on Monday...
ReplyDeleteThanks! I just tweeted them. I also tweeted @Appletweets just tell them what i thought of them lol
ReplyDeletesame here. my upgrade came around on 1/1/12. i decided to wait to see what the next big thing was going to be. guess i picked the wrong one. lol. #evogate
ReplyDeleteOk so apple patents and all that junk are the initial cause....but now these customs agents have had 3wks to complete this inspection and haven't done a god damn thing yet? Ok so WTF? There's no complaint that can be made by anyone especially sprint for needlessly holding up a product when they've had plenty of time to complete this, long before the launch date from how it sounds? We better find out they've all been standing around some dirty bomb hand to hand forming a human chain unable to perform any other task. Seems quite ridiculous this inspection couldn't be completed in 3 friggin weeks. I need me a government job....
ReplyDeleteThanks for the continued information "Neo"! I know I speak for so many others when I say, I truly appreciate it! You ROCK!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere is no spoon...
ReplyDeleteWish I knew the phone #of the Evo the ITC has... I'd text him/her... "Hey what's up, here's my digits, give me a call. Oh... if you have to enter it manually... put the Evo down, sign the release, and send me my damn phone.
ReplyDeleteWhy do I get the nagging feeling that a bad situation is going to turn worse? If Customs doesn't get off their collective asses...and soon, both HTC and Sprint are going to be headed toward Chapter 11.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. 3+ weeks with no action is pretty much what I expect from our government.
ReplyDeleteUnless we owe them money. Then things move along very quickly.
there is no spoon.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the info you give us. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteWe certainly dont see updates like this on i-Connect. =) Good Job.
ReplyDeleteI think Apple is throwing some political weight and money around, probably in the form of campaign donations in order to delay customs as long as possible.
ReplyDelete@CustomsBorder twitter feed is blowing up! nice :))
ReplyDeletefunny thing... I talked a local media guy into calling their PR person for CBP in Louisville... he said he had not heard any uproar about it.. however he had been stationed in Chicago for the past week or so due to the NATO stuff. Said it'd be first of next week before he could find out any info due to most everyone being up there.
ReplyDeletehaha, indeed. You could still access my blog from corporate sites until Thursday when they finally blocked it. My guess is sView is so locked down you can't though from vendors (dunno which you fall into).
ReplyDeleteI'm in Network Ops, heard of sView but honestly not even sure what it is. I have access to the basics when it comes to the Care/Info side of the house. I have no doubt that CorpSec has blocked the site though, LOL.
ReplyDeletealways good to have a friend in Network Ops lol
ReplyDeleteLOL our phones have to get a pat-down.....
ReplyDeleteyea. They were quick to count my winnings in Vegas last year and try to charge me back taxes. I filed an amendment including my losses. I'm still waiting on them to approve
ReplyDeleteMy feeling is they locked down a lot of the info. Wouldn't be surprised if just a few at Sprint know so they can get back on top of this. Maybe part of the maintenance this weekend is either to announce the new date for next week or that it's going to be awhile and here's how you can cancel. If it's my company and my phone I'm releasing I would want to be the first to announce.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone desperately seeking good news, Taipei Times is reporting that HTC has announced its phones have cleared customs.

The article doesn't call out our LTEvos specifically, but what other devices could it be referring too?
Good news for HTC. Good news for consumers.
TAIPEI TIMES reporting SOME HTC phones released from customs.

May be some light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.
Anything heard today 5-21-12 ????
ReplyDeletewaiting for some more updates from the only source that seems to know anything, at least in any sort of reasonable time frame.....
ReplyDeleteSure, a friend in NTK... outside of work. haha
