PRELIMINARY new launch date - 5/23 for HTC EVO 4G LTE

There is a PRELIMINARY new launch date for the HTC EVO 4G LTE of 5/23 - more details to come soon as it's safe to post.

**UPDATE 1:18 PM** - Still unofficial, but the plan is that items will be shipped out to pre-orders first, in time for them to get them before the new launch date of 5/23. Trying to get a lock down on when first shipments will go out.

NOTE - this is VERY preliminary, and happened within the last hour. There are more details, and a couple of things that could change it.. I'll be able to post a more definitive post by late afternoon with details. hang tight as I'm having to post this from my phone.

  1. So, I am assuming that this is when the pre-orders would go out? Or would we be before that?

Thanks for all the info you give us. You definitely make this easier to deal with. :)

  2. Thank you so much for the speedy updates. I haven't hear about this site until recently. Not sure if the information is truly valid, but if it is Im happy to hear the news. Its better than what sprint is actually doing, leaving us in the dark

  3. Pre-orders area already picked and packed and ready to ship and could most likely be shipped ASAP.. or so I would assume..

  4. Amazon Wireless customers are being told their preorders will ship on time (5/18). Perhaps Amazon already has a shipment in their warehouse.

  5. Thanks for the updates. Seriously (but not bitterly), is there a reason why Sprint could not officially post everything that has been posted on this site? I don't see anything that would harm Sprint.

  6. I absolutely love this site!!! If the stupid Customs issue had never arisen, I still would be in the dark about all the great information here! At least one good thing came out of this!

  7. I'd be really annoyed with Sprint if I weren't getting regular updates -- from this site. You've saved at least three customers (me and two friends).

I'll be happy to communicate that in writing to Sprint if you'd like, just say the word. Thanks again.

  8. FYI, I just received an update to my "PRE-ORDER" from Best Buy, stating that my new release date is 05/23/2012.

Great info at this site... keep up the great work!

  11. Saw the work around for the patent issue... Brilliant. Instead of the front end of the OS determining what might be usable data then creating a hyperlink. HTC has an associations in settings to associate with a 2nd party app like from Market/Play which then determines what is usable data. I assume they then loaded such an app for us.This Associations also allows you to associate specific apps to anything else.

  13. I was told by a Sprint rep two days ago at around 9pm EST that I would positivly recieve the EVO LTE on 5/18 and that there were no back orders in my state (Maryland)! I can't wait until tomorrow.

  14. this is great news for us evo pre orderers!

    ReplyDelete
  15. If that was the case, than wouldn't you have received an email with tracking information for your package? Considering it's the day before release and you haven't heard anything, you more than likely won't be getting anything tomorrow. Especially if it was a pre-order.

    ReplyDelete
  16. yea.. you got a rep that didn't bother to actually look. it happens :(

  17. Nooooo! Sprint would never lie to me. Until I don't get it Friday, I am going to figure that I am going to get it Friday. There is always that chance that the preorder people will get it Friday. Very very very very slim but it could happen. I am not angry or anything, jsut excited to get this phone. For now I have the EVO 3D which is still awesome so I will wait as long as it takes. Just really excited.

  18. This should be quoted in your header lol!!

  20. The best part of this fiasco, for me, has been finding this blog. Thank you for the up-to-date info. Stay safe and remember...Keep your nose to the wind and your tail to yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  21. wow... you got 3 years worth of catching up to do LOL. thanks :)

  22. Not sure why companies think its bad to give info as it comes in. What is the use of facebook and Twitter if you're only using it to promote crap that I don't care about anyway..I swear if Sprint send me another tweet about going green I'll puke. Give me something of substance..

Oh Neo, tell Sprint they need to start gearing up the marketing of this phone. It should go like this.."Say Hello to the All new EVO LTE, the only Phone that has been stopped at the border, the only phone kick ass enough to scare Apple" i think you understand what I mean.

    ReplyDelete
  23. So if the legal issue is resolved and all of the preorders are ready, what is keeping Sprint from authorizing UPS to ship them immediately? I'm still holding out hope of having this beauty in my hands this weekend...

    ReplyDelete
  24. If this pans out I would expect to see a tracking number tonight or tomorrow. Who knows some may have phones in hand tomorrow..

  25. I am excited for the Update to the update from the source who will receive the update from an update who is then going to give us all the answers about the update of HTC. (I felt the need to confuse everyone including myself) :D Humor is needed in sad times!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Just gotta say that you're the man. Thanks for helping me keep my sanity through all this.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So what does that mean for those of us that preordered in store? Will we get ours on or before the 23rd? And love your blog. You rock my socks off!

    ReplyDelete
  28. So this apparently just got before a judge:

    http://www.fosspatents.com/2012/05/delaware-based-federal-court-orders.html

Who ordered HTC and Apple to "meet in Delaware on August 28, 2012, to discuss a possible settlement.".

The elephant in the room that was left out in this article is what happens to phones that people have ordered? Are they going to ship? Are they going to get a software hack / tweak to make Apple happy? Are we going to wait until August 28th, 2012 to see if Apple and HTC can kiss and make up?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would hope that the in-store pre-orders would get the same treatment as the online pre-orders, i.e. that the phones will be shipped to the stores immediately and we get notified that as early as (hopefully) tomorrow that they are available to be picked up. Especially for those of us utilizing some upgrade shenanigans in order to get the phone early (using my wife's upgrade, and 14 days early to boot!). Thanks for the great updates, can't wait to hear more!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Can you answer of us this:
Why, unless I do my own research, have I as a customer not received any kind of email communication from Sprint on this? If I had just ordered and moved on, I would get home from work tomorrow and wonder why I hadn't received my preorder. I'm a new customer and am switching over from T-mobile (who I have never had an issue with). This has really made me second guess my decision to switch to Sprint.

Sprint could have saved themselves a lot of phone calls and pain if they had just sent out some emails with updates as this progressed.

The number one complaint most people have with a company is a lack of communication. The second is people not doing what they say they will do.

Thanks for your fantastic website. Glad I found it.

  31. Key words, "two days ago", that's when they were telling everyone that theirs phone were all packed up and waiting for ups to pick them up.

    ReplyDelete
  32. At that point I had already read about the Customs hold up. I know he was just saying it to get me to leave the chat thing but like I said, I don't care. I will get the phone eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sometimes but I've gotten shipped items that showed up with no tracking info it shipped faster than sprint posted the number

    ReplyDelete
  34. That's Apple for you, can't beat us in the marketplace, delay us in the dirty tricks department.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks, Neo, for being there for us "little folk" who are dying to get our hands on a a brand new EVO!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Is there any idea as to when Sprint is going to fire up LTE for everyone?

  40. I noticed that as well and actually started screaming at the TV when I saw that. Made my wife laugh at me a bit though.

Apparently ol' Jimmy Iovine must be "above the law".

  45. LOL, I just got an email from sprint about the customs problem

    ReplyDelete
  46. Just got an email from sprint with an update on my order... basically now they say it's held in customs... gee thank you Sprint for telling me something I knew 2 days ago.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Apple is never going to be "happy"; their goal is to stop all Android phones from being on the market.

It will be up to the judgement of the ITC if the changes HTC made to the phones are sufficient to be considered no longer infringing [this ridiculous] patent.

Maybe (and this is probably just my hopeful thinking here) what happened behind closed doors was that the judge looked at HTC's changes, felt it was sufficient but asked Apple if they agree, and of course, Apple being Apple, does not agree. The judge realized that neither side will budge, so he allowed the lifting of the current embargo, pending the settlement talks to avoid prolonged litigation.

  48. I was going to say that I haven't gotten any emails from them since their email last week about how my "unlimited Evo" was almost here, but I decided to open my Yahoo Mail app to check the exact wording and date, only to find a new email sitting in my inbox about the customs problem, which apparently was received more than an hour ago... and then my Yahoo Mail notification popped, telling me I had new mail as I was reading said new mail.

Figures that the sucky Yahoo Mail app wouldn't notify me of new emails in a timely fashion. Why didn't I sign up using my Gmail account?

  50. [...] With the launch date being delayed due to Apple making sure the phones didn’t infringe on there patents will the HTC One X be as popular?  Or will people not want to wait and explore other options?  No way to know right now but if you are going to wait this is the date to look for! **UPDATE 1:18 PM** – Still unofficial, but the plan is that items will be shipped out to pre-orders first, in time for them to get them before the new launch date of 5/23. 51. UPS Delivers for Sprint
See how thousands of orders are fulfilled daily as UPS handles 85% of Sprint's consumer orders in the U.S. using 375,000 square feet of dedicated storage space in Louisville, KY.

  52. Hold the phone (no pun intended) a second...

Where did you see that the judge said that the current embargo was lifted? All I saw from the article was that the judge ordered HTC and Apple to meet in Delaware on August 28th, 2012 to try and cut a deal. There was no mention, that I saw, about ending the embargo at all.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Guess what I received today...my email from sprint about phones being held up..lol Better late then never I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I do, agree, though that Apple will likely never be "happy". They are waaaaaaay too full of themselves to ever settle for anything but everyone having an iPhone, and iPad, an iMac, an iCar and eventually I'm sure the'll come out with the iCasket because they are Apple and obviously anything they make is the best thing since sliced bread.

Hell, I'm surprised they haven't come out with the iBread yet!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Somehow my gut feeling tells me that we're not going to see these phones this side of Memorial Day.

    ReplyDelete
  56. When I saw that I had an email from Sprint I really didn't want to read it. Ignorance IS bliss. Lol. I had to read it though, I thought there was a chance that it was a tracking number. Nope. But at least Sprint sent out a communication before the actual launch day. I was going to be a little upset if they never emailed anyone. Now, I go on about my business as if nothing ever happened and maybe we will get a surprise email soon...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Please go back to my comment:

"Maybe (and this is probably just my hopeful thinking here) what happened"

I said MAYBE. None of us know what happened, the people that do haven't said anything. I'm just speculating.

  61. Neo, you rock. Thank you! My EVO 4G died on Saturday - AFTER I pre-ordered so I thought I could hold out until the 18th when the new phone came. Thanks to you, I went to my local Sprint repair shop to have it replaced and now can patiently wait for the new phone - whenever it gets here. And because of you, the manager there was informed before Sprint informed him! He was also surprised to hear his shipment would be delayed.

  67. I switched over from T-Mobile also for this phone. In 6 years I never had any serious issues with them either other than they won't upgrade my area to 3G data speeds and it hasn't even been 6 weeks with Sprint...

    ReplyDelete
  68. I would think Sprint can't officially post any of this since nothing is definite. If Sprint were to say "we don't really know when you'll get your phones but we're crossing our fingers it'll be soon"..... I don't think that would come across very well. My guess is they aren't communicating much because they just don't know when the phones will be released and they don't want to say "we just don't know". Basically they already did say that when they sent out emails saying the launch (& our orders) were delayed, to those who pre-ordered from Sprint. I read somewhere in the last couple of days that every communication that goes out has to be approved by the lawyers, I can't imagine they'd ever sign off on a vague update that doesn't really tell anyone anything except "we don't know". People just need to be patient and be grateful for sites like this that are able to give us some unofficial info. Keep in mind that by allowing sites like this to operate, they seem to be endorsing the unofficial communication they can't give out directly.

    ReplyDelete
  69. What can they say, when they don't know when their shipments will be released to go out? They already sent out emails to the people who preordered from Sprint, saying the launch date has been delayed. I know we all want to know WHEN we can have our phones but if they don't know when customs will release them, I just don't understand what everyone thinks they can tell us.

    ReplyDelete
  70. People get mad at Sprint for not communicating (because I'm guessing they don't know anything so there's nothing to communicate yet), BB apparently either thought they knew or guessed the 23rd would work and now.. OOPS they had to retract that date. Communication is great but it's not that useful when it's not accurate.
