HTC EVO 4G LTE's - CLEARED & SHIPPING!

While I was typing the previous post about the update call earlier, I got the notice that customs finished the other half, and this notice will hit customer care at 5PM CST Today (35 min from now):

  • We are pleased to announce that our warehouse has HTC EVO 4G LTE devices to fill pre-orders.

  • We are no longer accepting pre-order cancellations.

What you need to do:

  • Beginning 5/21/12 at 5:00 p.m. Central, tell customers we cannot accept pre-order cancellations.

  • Our warehouse is processing pre-orders and delivery is expected by 5/24.

  • If a customer wants to cancel their order:

    • Advise them to wait for delivery of their device.

    • Once received, they can either refuse shipment or call Order Support to process an RMA

  3. THank you so much for the updates! If it weren't for you, there wouldn't be any updates about this at all! HTC & Sprint have dropped the ball in regards to communicating the status of the issue.

  15. I have been worried about this as my old Samsung Intercept (worst phone ever) keeps dying and I have to reboot it twice a day. I have been waiting for 6 months for it to finally die for the last time. Now, it seems that it just has to make it a few more days.

  40. I bet you this guy is Dan Hesse himself! There is no way Sprint wouldn't track him down and hang him, not literally but after the lawyers he may have wished they did. This site and Twitter account have now been cited in many news stories and even in the official Sprint forums so either they already know who he is and approve of having an under the table news source to get info out to customers without the pressure of getting things wrong in the mainstream press? But to me it makes no sense as I would have more appreciation for Sprint if they supported an official blog, maybe even this one? Wouldn't it be cool if Sprint had this blogger on their official site? Maybe even Dan Hesse himself could post from time to time? I like Hesse and I thought his move to buy MetroPCS made sense as Sprint could have launched MetroPCS' own LTE network as their own and we could have been using LTE on our soon to be new EVO LTEs in the old MetroPCS markets! Man think how cool that would have been as Sprint could have hooked their backhaul onto MetroPCS superior network technology and they would have sped up the LTE launch by a year plus! Hesse is the man and Sprint needs to keep him around and learn a thing or two!

  47. Michele...Amazon..that is interesting. My Amazon order generated two emails...one saying they would be delayed. Then a 2nd saying i had to reconfirm if I wanted to keep the order in. All of this on Friday the day it was supposed to ship. After the 2nd one it changed the expected ship date for the PHONE to JUL 5. (just a placeholder I think). The freebie they included showed today as the expected ship date.
As of right now..it remains with those two dates.

  50. How'd you get an e-mail already? I was hoping they would go with overnight shipping for us pre-orders through Sprint, as we were supposed to receive the phone first.. Well, at least I know I'll have it by Thursday! Just don't want to see them at BB for sale before mine is in my grubby little hands! Thanks again neo. We love ya.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thanks for keeping up updated!

Now that it's more of less resolved, were there other shipments received since the intial ones been on hold? Also do subsequent shipments get inspected also? I assume they all arrive via ship in containers since I think that's the cheapest way to ship internationally.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I still haven't received a shipping notification, but that's OK, I know it is now clear the hurdle and on its way. My girl is eagerly awaiting getting her hands on my Evo 3D, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Eric, did you read somewhere that they will be shipping overnight to us pre-orders? I've been searching frantically and fingers are crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  54. yes I had the same experience I reconfirmed my order but then emailed c/s to ask if that date was an actual estimate or just a hopefully "buffered" date and I got a response that yes unfortunately the phones are being delayed by about a week (won't go into how the difference between may 21 and july 5 is not a week) and that he would upgrade my shipping to one day for free. Then the next time I checked my order my phone and free item had been combined to ship together (they had been separated with 2 different shipping dates after I reconfirmed) and the ship date had changed to May 21. Hoping it is correct.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Nope. Thank customs, HTC, and Sprint. The "Lord" had nothing to do with it. All humans, homie.

  69. This blog has made for some interesting reading, and I am very appreciative of the up to date insider information. Sprint (and HTC) need to understand that we are all willing to be patient as long as communication is clear and frequent.

I haven't been so worried about when the phone arrives. I am more nervous it will not live up to expectations (i.e. battery life, stability, etc). My Android tablet's reliability and battery life decreased when the ICS update was pushed. I am hoping I didn't spend $200 on a phone that will bring nothing by headaches. I'll continue to keep my expectations low. Heck, I am moving from a Blackberry to the EVO, so anything should be better (fingers crossed).

  79. Sorry, I just reread the thing, and as far as my understanding goes, delivery by 24th means shipping out, not at doorstep... unless corporate language really changed. Delivered to you by 24th means in customers hand, delivery simply promise shipping... Anyways, I am hoping you guys are right and I get the phone asap.

  87. Your coverage on this has been a godsend. Without your sane information I likely would have cancelled my order this morning and checked out the One X on AT&T. I sent an e-mail to dan@sprint.com this morning to say as much and hopefully the higher-ups will realize the benefit of communication in such an event (where the internet was ripe with disinformation splattered about by trolls) and make an official imitation of your efforts.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Thank you, thank you, & thank you!!! You are awesome and we all applaud you for keeping us informed throughout this speed bump. A week or less delay is no big deal in the big picture. I will have my new EVO in my hands by the end of this week.

The biggest failure was Sprint not directly providing updates in a timely manner. I hope they will review this when all is said and done.

Keep posting information as you can, especially on LTE rollouts to Phoenix, AZ.

    ReplyDelete
  89. that depends on what color pill you took :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yeah EVO4, I'm in Phoenix, AZ as well. I was the first one in line at 5:30am for evo launch in 2010. I still have not been able to experience 4G!!
I can't for the life of me understand why they didn't put some cities like Phoenix that never got wimax among the first for LTE?

I believed them last time that 4G would be coming soon in our area on evo launch day in 2010, and now I'm doing the same thing again. How does that go, fool me once shame on you...twice...me!

I was lucky to find this blog tho, with the info that AZ might be moved up to stage II I think it was. Thanks neo, (or Dan Hesse if that's you...) this has been my most visited website in the last couple weeks.

I can't wait for my new phone!

  98. Awesome! Thanks for all the great intel. Now we all can continue to check this site for updates on the LTE network or at least upgrades to the 3G quality.

    ReplyDelete
  99. So I have been captivated by this whole "EVO-GATE 2012" deal...and when I found this site, it was what has kept me sane. My phone crashed a few weeks ago, and Ive been waiting on the EVO LTE to hit. Thanks for keeping us up to date, and apparently killing your bloody mary buzz in the process. HOWEVER....having said that, this is what the Sprint community forum page says, and I was hoping you, Neo, could answer me a question.

"Sprint has made an offiical announcement in Sprint News.

    5/21 UPDATE:

Customers who pre-ordered HTC EVO 4G LTE…Your wait is almost over! Sprint expects to begin shipping HTC EVO 4G LTE for arrival on or around Thursday, May 24 to customers who pre-ordered the device online from Sprint. We will provide details on the full national launch as soon as possible."

So does that mean that those of us that per-ordered through places like Best Buy, or Radio Shack will be waiting longer?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Holy shit do you think the ghost of Steve Jobs did this?! lol Definitely has to be apple.... Those bastards

    ReplyDelete
  101. Thanks for everything Sprint Insider.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I used to use it for work when i was in the service dept. Time sheets and expense reports all done via quickbase. Sucked big time.

    ReplyDelete
  103. That's kind of what is sounds like right now... Hopefully for you guys if it is longer, its not by much. From what I have seen Sprint has not come out with a new "National Launch Date". I would assume that other 3rd parties would try to get their product out by the launch date when ever that ends up being.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I got the same horse and pony show from Amazon too. Mine still says July 3rd.

    ReplyDelete

  119. Say Neo, any idea whebn outfits like Wirefly will start recieving their shipments? I ordered my handset through them, and I am curious as to when they will start getting their inventory so they can start fulfilling their orders.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I've been wondering the same thing. I saw on another message board someone posted their chat with Wirefly.com. Though it was before the recent Sprint news of pre-orders shipping, it offered a little info. While he couldn't get a confirmation of exactly when they would ship, they did tell him that they would be getting their shipment directly from HTC, the same as Sprint:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26391310

    Some notable excerpts:
"We receive the phones directly from HTC."

Q: "So, is wirefly expecting delivery at the same time, or shortly after, Sprint receives delivery from HTC?"
A: "We will receive the phones approximately in the same time."

"Sprint will announce the new launch date once the issue is resolved and we will ship the phones accordingly."

"Yes, we will receive the phones once the issue is resolved and the phones will be shipped according to the new launch date"

So it looks like Wirefly, and probably the other 3rd party retailers, have to wait for Sprint to set an official launch day before they can ship any orders. And they seem to be waiting on their shipment of phones as well.

Purely speculating here, but I would think that since Sprint is already shipping pre-orders, the new official release date should be announced soon. Also speculating, but since Sprint pre-order customers are getting May 24th as their arrival day, I think the official release will be no sooner than that, possibly even the 25th, since that's Friday and their original intended release date was a Friday as well.

BTW, my Wirefly order still says "shipping in 2-3 weeks" and my receipt shows I pre-ordered "on 5/7/2012 9:01:29 AM" (they list in Eastern Time). In fact, it still also says "Ships May 18th." I'm not too happy with the lack of any updates from Wirefly throughout this ordeal.

  125. I can understand their decision... For people that currently have a WIMAX phone and have WIMAX coverage, it would be a big step down if there was no LTE coverage in their city. Us people who never go 4G and have been stuck on 3G won't take any steps down, we'll just be super happy when LTE comes to our town.... come on MILWAUKEE!!!!

  126. Got another email asking me to re confirm my order again and now has the ship date of July 3rd so all overnight shopping got me is a 1 day delay :-) I am calling this morning surely it won't be that long!

    ReplyDelete
  127. I've been told by Amazon that July02 is the "current/preliminary ship date", however the orders will be updated and devices will be shipped AS SOON AS they have the devices in inventory. I'd like to think they should be receiving the devices in warehouse the same time as Sprint pre-order customers receive theirs, then shipped to their customers at that point. Although, that's just my .02; not to be confused with the disappointing July02 date. =)

    :)

  130. I ordered from Wirefly as well on the 5/7. My status has been "Approved - Awaiting Inventory" with Estimated Delivery Date: TBD. It hasn't changed since I placed the order. I'm hoping Wirefly starts shipping on Friday at the latest.

    ReplyDelete
  131. At least you have a message that says 2-5 days. Mine just says we'll try to get it to you by the 24th.... And I pre-ordered it 2 mins after the pre-order launch date. The only reason I'm stressed about this is a week from today I'm moving to San Diego so I NEED this darn thing to get here NOW!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Exactly I'm moving to the virgin islands in 7 days!! Need this phone. Sprint is the only carrier there. Need the phone to activate device... Ugggghj

    ReplyDelete
  133. I had to call my Sprint Store and the manager was giving me the denial line. I am one of those who pre-ordered the HTC EVO 4G LTE inside the store using the $50 gift card option. Anyway, I called Sprint National Support (probably one of you at Inside Sprint Now I hope! LOL) and the rep said that all devices are EXPECTED to be in people's hands or the store hands by 5/24. SO if this helps anyone... :)

    ReplyDelete
  134. I too had just spoken to someone at Sprint, a buddy that works out in the call center in Colorado. He said that in their meeting this morning, it was said that ONLY SPRINT website and in store pre-orders would be getting shipped this week, as for all third party (Best Buy, Wire Fly and Radio Shack) the wait for them would be more like 4-6 weeks, maybe even into July. If that is true, that sucks!

    ReplyDelete
  135. I hope not, that would suck for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I'd feel more at ease with a tracking number

    ReplyDelete
  137. I ordered over the phone with sprint.. Does that count?

    ReplyDelete
  138. Yes it does, or I would assume so. He told me for ALL Sprint corporate orders, so I would take that as in store, on the website and ovr the phone.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Time to do the happy dance :-)

    ReplyDelete
  140. Good lord. STILL NO TRACKING #........ :-/ lady from sprint GUARANTEED my phone IN MY HANDS on the 24th....... :-/ almost believed her for a half a second until I asked for her name and operator # and could only give me her name.. all sounds really hinky to me

    ReplyDelete
  141. Has anyone that pre-ordered received their tracking number yet? Mine doesn't have one yet. BTW Thanks for this website! It is the only thing that kept me "sane" the past week :)

    ReplyDelete
  142. It is starting to seem hokey that shipping has not yet begun. I have heard they are sending them overnight, so hopefully we should be getting tracking info this evening. The reports have said that the customs area is actually inside the UPS terminal that Sprint uses as a warehouse at the end of the runway in Kentucky. One would still think the phones would be scanned and loaded in shipping containers waiting for airplanes to take them away.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Just got this...

Thank you for ordering from Wirefly.com.

Great News! We learned overnight that US officials finally cleared the Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE shipment and they will soon be on their way to Sprint and, of course, us.

We do not have a definitive delivery date yet, but we’ve done this many times before and we can assure you that the phones will literally spend about 1 hour in our distribution facility before we ship them out the door.

To be fair to all of our customers, we are shipping the phones in the order in which the purchases were made. We will send you an email as soon as your device is ready to ship. If you wish to make any modifications to your order, now would be a good time to do so because when the phones arrive, we’ll be heads-down working to get them out the door ASAP.

We are glad that Sprint, HTC, and the US Government were able to come to agreement because this is one incredible device and from everything we’ve heard, worth the wait. Thanks again for shopping with us. We appreciate your business.

    Sincerely,

    You Friends at Wirefly.com

  144. i don't know how it all works.. was also thinking about how the phones were packaged from taiwan.. could they have been bulk phones without being packed with charger and booklets and such.. so another layer of boxing and tagging to do before they can ship??

who knows.. staying hopeful for now.. they are expeditiously working at this.

however the 'cleared and shipping' headline seems a bit premature when no one has ups tracking info and the sprint official stuff still only uses the terminology 'processing'

    ReplyDelete
  145. My understanding is that even in the customs hold area one could label for shipping. You just can't move them out of the hold area untll released from customs. That being said... it's just a matter of scan into trucks and airplanes.

    ReplyDelete
  146. You are talking a heck of a lot of phones. Since they can process about 65,000 a day. It would of made since to label while in customs holding.

  148. Confirmed with Wireless Advocates (through Costco) that they expect to start shipping by the end of the week, so the 4-6 weeks for those who purchased through 3rd party vendors is probably not correct.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Has anyone received a tracking number yet?

    ReplyDelete
  150. Still waiting on tracking number... ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  151. Anyone with any updates from Best Buy? I pre-ordered at a local Best Buy as I'm traveling for work - if the phone doesn't come in by Thursday afternoon I will have to cancel pre-order since I'm heading back home, thus screwing me out of pre-order status :(

    ReplyDelete
  152. I don't thin Sprint would put another launch date (5/24) on their website unless they were very confident that they would be able to ship by that date. In the words of Douglas Adams, "Don't Panic." I'm very hopeful we'll have our phones by the 24th. If I'm wrong, well, I guess it'll be crow for dinner, but I think the world will continue to spin on.

    ReplyDelete
  153. For those of us that weren't able to "Pre-Order" in time before they stopped, what would be the fastest way to get a phone? Order through 3rd party such as Best Buy or just wait for the local sprint store to get their stock?

    ReplyDelete
  154. Ha, got my EVO today, but I live in Kentucky, pretty close to the UPS warehouse, NOT, just messing with ya, hope I get mine on Thursday

    ReplyDelete
  155. Tracking number!!! Me wants! Why no has???

    ReplyDelete
  156. funny...laughed out loud.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Booooo hiss.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Did you go through sprint? and did you get a tracking number before hand?

    ReplyDelete
  159. Just called Best Buy to see when phones coming in and was told not scheduled until the end of June now...I pre-ordered and now may not get for another month???? I hope this is not the case.

  160. The name of the distribution company that handles these shipments is Brightpoint (http://www.brightpoint.com/). All of the product arrives to them already packaged in the retail (or OEM/brown box depending on the company) packaging. Customs may spot check containers as they reach port (on the West Coast, which explains why some of you think the phones are still in Cali), but the majority of customs inspections occur in the bonded section of a distributors warehouses. Brightpoint has a huge hub in KY, that handles a lot of clients, VZW, Intel, Sprint to name a small portion of their business. Both Intel and Sprint have their refurb/repair stock facilitated by BrightPoint in Kentucky. All of these companies have separate sections of the center dedicated to fulfilling their orders, but this isn't some mom and pop shop. Sprint Guy isn't pulling each order, labeling the box for you and sealing it with a kiss. This is a well oiled machine that doesn't stop because of a customs hold up. Resources are allocated to the next shipment that isn't held up. Trust me , the workers at these warehouses have plenty of "busy work" to do while they wait for the ITC , Apple and HTC to play nice.

So before you start complaining about Sprint not getting product out YESTERDAY, remember that a really big disty is fulfilling the orders and they are not going to change their processes just because someone on this board thinks "prelabeling" packages is a good idea. Sprint doesn't have a UPS plane idling at the end of the runway because we impatient. I'm sure they already started the line rolling on getting these out, and thousands upon thousands of packages will be picked, packed and shipped every hour. Unfortunately, your phone isn't anything special to them, just a pick number on the list waiting to be fulfilled.

Having said all that, i want my damn phone just like the rest of you :-) But I know the logistics process and stamping my feet isnt going to get myhone here any faster

    ReplyDelete
  161. I ordered through best buy and I hope I don't have to wait another month to the phone!!! This really blows if that is the case!!!! :(

    ReplyDelete
  162. wtf mate! I figured we would have some new information today, a confirmed delivery, a tracking number, at least some internal message saying they are in fact on the move. However, I guess my figuring was all off, a day with nothing hurts my soul! :P

    ReplyDelete
  163. BB can be nice to work with, but I preordered with Sprint, glad I did

    ReplyDelete
  164. Just heard got an email from Wireless Advocates (through Costco). Scheduled ship date from them is May 30th, and they say I should have it the following business day.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Sorry, that was kinda mean, LOL, I preordered through sprint on the 8th, took me a day to make up my mind. Sprint site says I should have it on the 24th, but no tracking number yet

    ReplyDelete
  166. Amazon still says July 5 on the order status page ... that's gonna suck.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Probably, looks like there may be some cancellations, might want to get on the waiting list now

    ReplyDelete
  168. What waiting list? At the Sprint store? The CS Rep at the store said he didn't think there would be any problem getting one the day they hit the stores, not much of a demand for them like when they got the iPhone. You wouldn't think that by reading all these comments on here..haha

    ReplyDelete
  169. I'm just thinking if you ordered one now, you would be more likely to get it. When the OG EVO came out, it was hard as hell to find one

    ReplyDelete
  170. At least you guys have a timeframe. Mine's still blank under status. :(

  172. back at the beginning of all this we were told orders were "pick packed" which means all set and ready to go and they were able to do this while in the holding area as long as the product doesn't leave the international zone, just waiting on the clearance from customs. Now customs has cleared and its an over due product in high demand and not a single person has got an update or a tracking number or anything in 2 days. Ya figure as soon as the ok came outta customs mouth these things would be rushed everywhere to get to overdue waiting fed up customers.....something don't seem right.....hoping for the best but not expecting any miracles..

    ReplyDelete
  173. Just don't want to make the wrong choice at this point. Always seems like my luck picking the wrong line at the bank, store, etc. and ends up taking twice as long as the others.

    ReplyDelete
  174. still no email, still no tracking number from Sprint...

    ReplyDelete
  175. From working with UPS a lot, we won't be getting that email until tomorrow sometime; probably the afternoon. Shipping labels need to be printed, & an "End of Day" process needs to be done. then it should automatically be sent.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I called Best Buy (1888-BEST-BUY) and spoke to a phone representative who said that it is scheduled for May 26th (Saturday). She sounded confident. I'm hoping she's right. IF it is anything worse than that, I am going to be ticked!

    ReplyDelete
  177. Ordered through Sprint online at 8... got an email back the same day at 8:11 with a tracking #. I was logged into my account before 8 and saw them switch to taking pre-orders. Still no tracking #.

  178. All the excitement yesterday and we are still in the dark. Sprint is really starting to piss me off.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I have a bad feeling about this.

    ReplyDelete
  180. My experience with Best Buy was not bad. He is thinking Friday or Sat or even early next week. This talk about 6-8 weeks won't happen.

    ReplyDelete
  181. the silence today is deafening...a big let down from the good news of yesterday. Any news from deep inside the matrix Neo?

    ReplyDelete
  182. I had to talk to HTC about my 3d and while i had the rep on the phone, we was talking about the release of the 4G LTE. He insured me that once the phones clears custom, HTC and sprint would not wait to long to release it. Think about it, they have done and taken a loss because of apples delayed tactics. They can not afford to keep taking losses. For every day the phone isn't released, they have to be losing to.s of cash.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Patience little grasshoppers.... The record for pre-orders in 24 hours in over one million - Apple. Course they have no variety. There are red delicious, harleson, macintosh apples, etc. But they only sell 3 sizes of granny Smith.
The one piece of information we don't have and no one has asked is how many have been sold and how many do they have in the warehouse? How many do they need to process? 100, 200, 300k?

    ReplyDelete
  184. Sprint has about 50 million subscribers. Figuring a 2 year contact, that means about half a million are eligible for phone upgrades each week. On a fabulous phone as this it's easy to imagine people waiting weeks (in addition to this last painful week) to acquire this phone? So how many did they sell at all outlets?

    ReplyDelete
  185. Yeah, most people are, but Sprint doesn't seem to really care.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Ok....now I've gone over the edge. I need something to keep my hands busy! Hummm, I wonder what I need? Anyone have any ideas?
